Software giant, Infosys Ltd has denied the allegations of the statements made by the firm’s consultant Jay Palmer that the company allegedly mis-used B-1 (Business) visa meant for business purposes. Addressing the media, Infosys chief executive S D Shibulal has said that their company was never into such thing and stressed that they never use B-1 visa instead of H-1B (work visa). Shibulal has also said that the company has strict immigration policy and laid down clear rules asking employees to company with visa rules in 30 countries across the globe. He denied the allegations leveled against the company.
It may be recalled that a whistleblower television channel Commercial Broadcasting Service (CBS) aired the statements made by Jay Palmer. According to Palmer, Infosys brought Indian employees to US illegally and abused B-1 visas. He has also said that Indian workers were paid less than what an American will get paid for the same work.
“On occasions where individuals have reported seeing or hearing of employees who may have acted in ways inconsistent with our policy, we investigated them and have taken disciplinary action, including dismissal from the company,” Shibulal asserted.
Coming down heavily on the allegations, the company said: “The average trip to the US for an employee on a B-1 visa is less than four weeks, not up to a year, as the (CBS) story suggests. The numbers and calculations reported in the story are inaccurate and misleading.”
