Indian Information Technology (IT) giant Infosys has been ranked as World’s third best regarded company, according to a list released by Forbes of the 2000 best regarded companies.
While American financial services company Visa and Italian carmaker Ferrari is ranked first and second respectively, Bengaluru-headquartered Infosys outdid Apple, Siemens, Walt Disney, and others for the position.
Terming Infosys’ position in the rankings with a headline ‘Asian invasion’, Forbes said that while 59 of 250 companies listed are based in the United States of American, the next three countries are Japan, China, and India, with a total of 82 companies from the three countries.
Earlier this year, Infosys bagged 31st position in the list. The company previously was listed in the Best Employers for New Grads 2019 at the 205th position. It was ranked 44 in the Forbes’ 2018 list of Top 100 digital companies and 46 in the top multinational performers in 2017.
World’s Best Regarded Companies
Founded by N.R. Narayana Murthy in 1981, the IT giant Infosys is second-largest software exporter in terms of revenue in India. It recorded revenues of $11.6 billion in Fiscal Year 2019. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). As of March 2019, the company has 204,107 employees and 1,279 clients.
The list includes other Indian companies - Tata Consultancy Services at 22, Tata Motors at 31, Tata Steel at 105, Larsen & Toubro at 115, Mahindra and Mahindra at 117, HDFC at 135, and Bajaj Finserv at 143. Wipro stood at 168.
Besides Visa, Ferrari, and Infosys, the companies in the top 10 are Netflix, Paypal, Microsoft, Walt Disney, Toyota Motors, Mastercard and Costco Wholesale. Walt Disney dropped to the seventh position from first position last time.
In order to list the top 250 companies, Forbes partnered with statistics portal Statista. The American business magazine said the companies were ranked on trustworthiness and honesty, social conduct, how they fare as employers, and strength of their products and services.
According to Forbes, while the list includes every major industry, car manufacturers featured most to a large extent.
