Sunil R Kulkarni, a Indian-American lawyer of great eminence has been appointed as a state judge in Northern California. He is the first South Asian to take up the esteemed role. Kulkarni, 41, has previously worked as a senior counsel in the litigation group at the University of California. He was appointed to Santa Clara County Superior Court by Governor Jerry Brown last month. Although of an Indian origin, Kulkarni was born in Los Angeles and is currently residing in Palo Alto in California. An NRI businessman never knew he would invite troubles from the police for posting the video of his nine-year-old son driving a luxurious sports car, Ferrari F430. Mohammed Nishan, the man in the news apparently visited his home town Kerala recently to celebrate the birthday of his son on his home land. He gifted his son Ferrari F430 car and captured the video when his drove the vehicle. This video was posted by him to Facebook. All this happened in Peramangalam. While the parents were pride about the driving skills of their son, the police who had a glimpse of the video charged Mohammed Nishan under various acts including Motor Vehicles Act for the irresponsible behavior. Since the accused was an NRI, the police couldn't take him into the custody. The matter is now prejudice. Parents should make their children learn morals of life no matter even if they are born with silver spoons as everyone should leave their silver spoons down in earth when they take the unseen flights to unknown destinations! After the custody row of NRI children settled with the intervention of the government of India, a NRI woman from Sweden approached the mother of Norway children seeking her help in releasing her son from the government’s custody. The NRI mother in Norway has forwarded the request of Annie Johansson to the chairman of the National Human Right Commission with copies to the president, the prime minister, external affairs minister and home minister. According to NRI woman in Norway, Annie migrated to Visby in Norway and settled there in 2000. She gave birth to Domenic Johansson in 2001. After a couple of years, in 2009, the Swedish authorities took Domenic away from her mother and kept him in an emergency foster home on stating the Domenic’s mother was not taking proper care of her son. Anie has alleged that Swedish authorities don’t know anything about Indian culture and traditions. Annie was formerly known as Nirmal Kumar Bharos and was a resident of Pune. A UK tabloid run by an NRI has won the top prize in newspaper category in How-Do awards. The name of the tabloid is ‘Asian Lite’ and the person behind it is Anasudhin Aziz of Kerala origin. Asian Lite is Mancheter based publication that focuses on the events and issues in Britain. The panel that selected Asian Lite for the award has said that the quality and creativity of the content in the newspaper was awesome besides it also publishes content that is apt for the target audience. Anasudhin Aziz has said that the award was an honour and would help the editorial team stick to its ethics and bring back the lost essence and values of journalism. He has said that journalism was more than a business and they were trying their best to serve the community in a better way. He has also said that the advertising policy of his magazine was very strict that protects the readers sexual content. He has said that in the history of five years the team never took the support of psychics, faithe healers, astrologers or sex chat lines. The Indian Ambassador to the United States, Nirupama Ro has addressed the students at the University of Florida. She has hailed the Indian system and stated that it was the best in the world in terms of recognizing the contributions of women. She has cited her own example and said she rose to the highest position in Indian diplomacy. Nirupama Rao said: "In the years since when I came to be a diplomat, the impact that women have on public life in India has also grown from strength to strength. For example, I was privileged to head India's Foreign Service as the Foreign Secretary for two years from 2009 to 2011. It was a unique experience in every way." "It also demonstrated that our system is fair and just, and one of the best in the world when it comes to acknowledging the contribution of women in public service and to the life of the nation," she added. It has to be mentioned here that Nirupama Rao appeared for the civil sevices and opted Indian Foreign Service. She belongs to 1973 batch IFS. Nirupama Rao has also great love for literature. Another Indian national found dead in US April 25, 2012 07:34

Another Indian national was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the United States of America. The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) which came to know about the incident two days ago informed the parents in India the death of 28-year-old Nikhil. The post-mortem on the body was completed and the police said that the person would have died of drug reaction. The dead body is expected to arrive at Visakhapatnam on Friday. According to the sources, the body was completely spoiled and the officials suspect the death apparently took place ten days back. The people living in the apartments where Nikhil stayed (on the outskirts of Dallas in Trophy Club city) complained the police about the filthy smell that they were getting from the flat. The police who broke open the door on April 21 have found the dead body in reportedly decomposed state. It may be noted that Nikhil was working with an investment company after he completed M.S in 2008 from A & M University in Texas. Before moving to US, he pursued M.S (Industrial Engineering) at NIT Allahabad and worked with a private company in Noida. Notably, this is the second death of Indian students in US within a week. Eunuchs take NRI for a ride April 24, 2012 09:25

A Non Resident Indian (NRI) was allegedly looted by two eunuchs in the wee hours of Saturday. The 26-year-old man who supposedly came down from Dubai last month was returning to his home in Horizon View Residence from Bandra. He hired and auto and came across two women in the road waving hands for lift. The NRI man Rahul Seth never suspected that these two women were actually eunuchs and they would take him for a ride royally. He has offered them a lift after he asked the auto man to halt on looking at them. The two women reportedly asked the man to drop them near Lokhandwala. When Rahul Seth got down the auto-after he arrived at his residence-he pulled out his wallet to pay the auto fare. He still didn’t notice the eyes of these women, who presumably noticed his wallet filled with cash. The women asked Seth to let them into his room as they wanted to attend nature’s call. Seth agreed and as soon as they entered his flat, the two women jumped on him, pulled the knife, threatened him, punched him on his face and fled with fifteen thousand rupees besides a gold ring worth 60 thousand rupees that was purchased by Seth in Dubai. Seth said he approached the nearby police station and filed a complaint against his robbery. The police said they had filed non-cognizable offence since the investigation was underway. They have also said that Seth was drunk heavily when he approached the police station. Helping strange women and giving them lifts is perfectly alright, but inviting them to flats is always risky and foolish too. (Phani)
