Bob Dylan says Nobel left him 'speechless'

The Swedish Academy, that awards the Nobel prize, says Bob Dylan finally broke his silence and accepted his Nobel prize for literature. The US singer-songwriter said the the prize left him "speechless".

When asked "if I accept the prize? Of course", he said.

The Nobel prize winner said to the academy's permanent secretary, Sara Danius, "The news about the Nobel Prize left me speechless." "I appreciate the honor so much."

Earlier, the academy made several phone calls to Dylan following the prize announcement, but he did not respond any.

Usually, the Nobel winners awarded by the Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf on December 10. The king hands out prizes and cheques to the winners.

The award was "amazing, incredible". "It's hard to believe," Dylan said. "Whoever dreams about something like that?" he added.

The US singer-songwriter is the first songwriter to win the literature prize.
