Women top in civil services exams!

On Friday, women emerged the winners in this year's Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, acquiring the first and third positions in the results which were declared in the capital.

Interestingly, Haritha V. Kumar, a B.Tech student from Kerala University, stood first, followed by V. Sriram, an MBBS student, also of Kerala University. Stuti Charan, marketing and management student of IIPM, Delhi, came third.

Fact-fully, a total of 998 candidates (753 men and 245 women) made the cut this year for the IAS, IFS, IPS and other Central services.  A total of 13,092 candidates qualified for the main written test held in October, and 2,674 of them were selected for the personality test conducted in March-April.

As a concluding fact, out of the top 25 candidates, 12 took the exams from Delhi, two each from Chennai and Hyderabad, four from Thiruvananthapuram and one each from Jammu, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Allahabad. In fact, out of this list, six made it in their first attempt; nine in their second; eight in their third; and one each in their fourth and sixth attempts. Around four of them have already been recommended to services other than the IAS on the basis of the Civil Services Examinations of previous years while among the top 25 are 13 men and 12 women candidates.

Congratulations to the great achievers!
