Shuka (Dry) Moong Dal is a popular Gujarati household dish which can be easily prepared at home with very few ingredients. This is perfect for a weeknight dinner as this recipe is simple, quick and light on your tummy. This dal recipe is prefect on a busy day. It goes prefect with paratha or roti. Try this tasty dal recipe at your home.
Ingredients
- 1 cup moong dal (whole green gram)
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
- 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- A pinch of sugar
- 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
- Salt to taste
Directions
1. In a bowl, soak the moong dal in enough water for 15 minutes and after 15 min, drain the water from the dal and keep it aside.
2. In a pressure cooker, add the moong and 1½ cups of water and cook it for 25 min and switch off the flame and allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep it aside.
3. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida and fry on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
4. Add the cooked moong dal, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander seeds powder, lemon juice, sugar, coriander and salt, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes and stir occasionally.
5. Once done, switch off the flame and transfer it to serving bowl and serve it with roti and paratha.
