Try out a different idili with Semiya. Semiya idili tastes different and you can serve it with coconut chutney, pudhina chutney or sambar. Semiya idili is little more than compared to normal idili. Use thin semiya or substitute with thick semiya or pasta varieties. Here is the Semiya idili recipe.
Ingredients required for Semiya Idli
Thin Semiya (roasted & broken): 2cups
Roasted Rava: 1 cup
Baking soda: 1/2 tsp
Curd/yogurt: 2 cups
Salt
For Tempering
Oil: 2 tsp
Mustard seeds: 1/2 tsp
Urad dal: 1 tsp
channa dal: 1 tsp
Curry Leaves: 4-5 (chopped)
Asafoetida: a pinch
Optional Ingredients
Grated Carrot
Grated Ginger
Green Chillies
Grated Coconut
Cilantro
Cashews
How to make Semiya Idli
1.Mix dry ingredients like semiya, baking soda, rava and salt.
2.Add cur, mix and make thin batter. Add water if required.
3.3. Take a pan. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
4.Add curry leaves and asafetida.
5.Add the tempering to the batter and mix.
6.Add optional ingredients.
7.Leave batter for 15-20 minutes.
8.Grease idli plates, fill with batter.
9.Steam in a idli cooker for 15-20 minutes.
10.Remove from the molds and serve.
