Salman the investor picks stake in Yatra

People where quizzing when the news that Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan had invested in Yatra. What difference does this make? But when they realized that this gentleman was none other than the Bollywood heart throb, action hero, Dabangg Salman Khan!!! Then eyeballs started turning to the issue. Sallu Bhai’s other side as a painter and businessman is seldom known to his fans globally. His priceless paintings depict the wonders of life and makes one feel is this man wasting his time in the wrong are the last two decades. But now the Brand Ambassador of Yatra, is much obsessed with the versatility of the travel giant.

And the result is the King of Bollywood dives into the online world as an entrepreneur investor. He picked up less than 5% stake in the Travel portal Yatra. This could be first instance where a Bollywood star is picking up a stake in the brand he is endorsing. Sallu bhai’s decision comes at a time when the Indian travel industry is seeing turbulence, with domestic airlines posting losses because of high jet fuel cost, intense competition and a slowing economy.

As per a source on the info highway, ` Yatra.com President Sharat Dhall said the company will launch a multimedia campaign featuring Salman Khan with a marketing budget in excess of Rs 30 Cr within a few days, coupled with new product offerings such as installment payment for air tickets.’

Mr Sharat did not specify how his company would be using Khan’s investment or the remuneration being given to the actor for his multiple-year contract. He, however, said yatra.com would support Salman Khan’s charitable organization called Being Human.

`Earlier Yatra had acquired event portal, BuzzinTown with a vision to consolidate its position in the larger cities and expand its presence pan India. Mr Sharat added, “Since we are targeting customers in smaller towns, Salman Khan is a great fit considering his mass appeal across the country.” (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
