Apple and Samsung are reportedly preparing slim versions of their upcoming flagship phones. A well-informed source now suggests that the iPhone 17 Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could come with significantly lower battery capacities than their flagship counterparts. It is speculated that this move is to preserve the thin shape of the phone. It's worth noting that the iPhone 17 Air is scheduled to be unveiled along with the other models in the iPhone 17 series in September, the Galaxy S25 series is scheduled to arrive next week, but the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim may be delayed until May. In a post on Chinese social network Weibo, Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) shared details about the expected battery capacity of Apple and Samsung phones. According to the manufacturer, both models should have batteries in the 3000 to 4000 mAh range. These phones have an “ultra-thin” design with a thickness of 5.xmm to 6.xmm, putting heat dissipation and battery life to the test.

Meanwhile, the Chinese manufacturer is expected to launch its “slim” smartphone model, which could pack a battery with a capacity of around 5,000 mAh. Current models from Chinese OEMs feature silicon-carbon technology that improves energy density. However, global giants like Apple and Samsung have not done this yet, so they may have lower battery capacity and shorter screen time compared to standard products. According to previous reports, Apple's "ultra-thin iPhone" could be around 5.5mm thick, potentially making it the slimmest iPhone ever. It will not have a physical SIM card slot and will only support eSIM due to its thin form factor. The phone is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion technology and Apple's Dynamic Island. Visually, there should be a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel selfie camera. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim (model number SM-S937x/DS) now has a 6.66-inch display, which is likely to be identical to the Galaxy S25+. The main camera will be 200 megapixels, the ultra wide angle lens will be 50 megapixels and the telephoto camera will be 50 megapixels 3.5x.
