The FBI confirmed that Donald Trump, the former US president, was struck by a bullet or fragments from one during a campaign event. The incident, which took place on July 13 in Pennsylvania, caused blood on Trump's right ear. The FBI, investigating the matter as an assassination attempt due to a gunman outside the security zone firing eight bullets, clarified that the projectile came from the assailant's rifle. Despite Trump's past claims regarding the FBI being part of a larger conspiracy against him, he made a post on his Truth Social platform acknowledging the FBI's statement as an apology, accepting it wholeheartedly.

According to Ronny Jackson on Truth Social, a Republican congressman from Texas and former White House doctor, the wound Trump received was likely from a bullet, with no evidence suggesting otherwise. During the incident, two attendees were gravely injured, and a 50-year-old Pennsylvania firefighter was fatally shot before the gunman was taken down by a US Secret Service sharpshooter. Trump considers the attack a crucial element of his campaign, claiming he "took a bullet for democracy" during a rally. Maintaining that he had divine protection during the assault, Trump revealed at the Republican National Convention where he was nominated that he viewed himself as favored by God. Additionally, at Trump's rallies, his backers have started sporting bandages on their right ears in a subtle nod to the shooting. Trump rejected Wray's assertions, alleging they stemmed from political bias. He asserted that the impact was indeed forceful, describing it as a direct hit with no presence of glass or shrapnel.

Images and sound recordings point to the possibility that Mr. Trump might have been slightly hit by the initial bullet out of the eight shots fired by the attacker. The campaign of Trump has not published any medical documents or comments from his present doctor, but has relied on Jackson, a former White House doctor with close ties to the ex-president.
