While Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s USA tour was a huge success, there were huge protests against his tour in the USA. There were huge accusations against Modi that he is cracking down the human rights in India. There were several trucks around New York to question Indian Prime Minister mentioning as Hindu leader. Even Democratic lawmakers requested Joe Biden to question him about the violations of human rights in India.
A few digital banners in the New York streets carried the posters as, ‘Did you know mob lynching of Muslims, Christians and Dalits have surged under Modi’s rule’, Hey Joe Ask Modi why student activist Umar Khalid has been in prison for 100 days WITHOUT Taril?’, ‘ Why Modi banned USA from 2005 – 2014’, ‘particularly severe violations of religious freedom’, ‘Crime Minister of India’ and many more protesting slogans were spotted around the New York City.
Democrats Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have notably boycotted Modi’s address at the US Congress. Tlaib Bush passed a statement that “Modi has a notorious and extensive record of human rights abuses”. They mentioned the Gujarat riots that happened in 2002 that killed over 1000 people.
Congresswoman took her Twitter and condemned with strong words, she wrote, "It’s shameful that Modi has been given a platform at our nation’s capital—his long history of human rights abuses, anti-democratic actions, targeting Muslims & religious minorities, and censoring journalists are unacceptable. I will be boycotting Modi’s joint address to Congress". However the protests are, Narendra Modi’s USA tour was a grand success and next he will be on his way to Egypt.
