German airline Lufthansa Airlines has cancelled all its flights for today after the pilots called for a day strike. The airline cancelled 800 flights today and this will impact 1.30 lakh passengers who have already booked their flights in adavance. Lufthansa Airlines issued a statement about the same today. The pilots of the airline called the industrial action regarding the pay negotiations. The talks were not successful and the pilots called for a strike in the last hour. The strike began on Friday at 12 AM local time. Lufthansa Airlines said that they have put a very good offer for the basic wages of 900 EUR per month. The pilots have been demanding an increase of 5.5 percent by the end of this year as an automatic compensation for inflation and adjustment of salary grid.
Lufthansa Airlines said that the package demands by the pilot’s union will raise the costs by 40 percent or 900 million euros. The union argues to avert the labour disputes. Several Lufthansa Airlines flights in India too are cancelled and the travelers who already booked their tickets have been demanding a refund or an alternate ticket for their travel. There is a huge impact in the Frankfurt and Munich airports. Some of the flights on Thursday too are canceled from these airports. Lufthansa Airlines has been facing multiple strikes by the security workers and the ground staff. The airlines said that it is trying hard to minimize the effects of the strike. There would be lot of delays in the flights over the weekend as the airline has to accommodate the traffic of the canceled flights.
