For the first time, World has recorded 1 million coronavirus cases in 100 hours as on Friday, July 17.

The World has taken just 4 days to reach to 14 million cases from 13 million that was recorded on July 13.

Global coronavirus infections have crossed 14 million on Friday and this total is three times that of influenza cases recorded annually according to World Health Organisation (WHO).

United States stands on top of the list of countries worst affected by COVID-19 and is still seeing huge daily spikes in its first wave of COVID-19 infections.

The US has recorded more than 3.6 million coronavirus cases and reported a record number of 77,000 cases on Thursday, July 16.

As a contradiction, Sweden has reported 77,000 total coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.

Despite the surge in cases, countries like the US have resisted the endorsement of face masks and have called for a return to normal economic activity and reopening of schools.

Other hard hit countries have imposed second round of total lockdown which had resulted in flattening their coronavirus curve and have slowed down the spread of the virus.

The pandemic has already taken lives of 590,000 people across the world in almost seven months and the count is transcending the total number of influenza fatalities reported worldwide.

The first coronavirus death was reported on January, 10 in Wuhan, China at a time when the infection had not spread across the US and Europe.

According to the Reuters tally, the coronavirus disease is accelerating fast in America and the cases in the US account for more than half of the world’s infections.

On the other hand, India becomes the third country to report 1 million cases since the start of the pandemic. In the recent times, India has been recording about 30,000 new cases of infections daily.

In Brazil, more than 2 million people have tested positive for the coronavirus including the President Jair Bolsonaro. The country till now has reported more than 76,000 deaths.

India, Brazil and the US were the main drivers of more than 1 million cases in just a span of 100 hours. According to the WHO, on Friday, the one day increase in coronavirus cases across the world stood at 237,743.

Some countries with limited testing capacity only reflect a smaller proportion of total number of infections seen daily. According to WHO officials, the coronavirus data across the world only represents half of the actual cases being registered.
