An Indian-American physician Sudheer Chauhan was caught by coronavirus. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was fighting for his life for the last two weeks and then died on May 19th said APPI’s media coordinator Ajay Gosh.
Chauhan served the Internal Medicine Physician and Associate Programme Director IM Residency Program at Jamacia Hospital in New York. His daughter Sneh Chauhan spoke to APPI and he will be missed for the unique, kind and caring qualities.
The physician pursued his MBBS from GSUM Medical College, University of Kanpur in the year 1972 and got graduated in 1997 from Jamicia Hospital.
New York is the highly affected state in the U.S with 28,636 deaths and 76,410 positive cases. Counting the whole nation, the U.S is reported with 1,55,1853 COVID-19 positives and the lost lives is 93,439. The highly affected country in the world in the U.S. both infections and death wise.
A few days ago, Indian-origin father-daughters both were doctors and they passed away with virus infection. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said “ the demise of the healthcare heroes who dedicated their lives to helping others as particularly tough". Both father and daughter dedicated their lives to save other lives.
AAPI President Dr Suresh Reddy said, "We have a proud moment, it is (also) a scary moment; it is a mixed feeling, but this virus is a deadly virus.”
He added, "They tend to work disproportionately in areas that are medically underserved like rural and inner city areas taking on a heavier workload with patients who are more ill. We are definitely in the frontline fighting this deadly battle.”
AAPI said Indian-Americans are less than one percent of the US population. But one out of seven doctors that are serving America are Indian-origin and they are treating above 40 million of the US population.
In the U.S there are 80,000 Indian-American physicians who are practicing at the frontline to fight COVID-19. The organization also said that there are around 40,000 medical students, residents who are providing their healthcare services to the hospitals.
