The United States food an drug regulator has recently withdraw at least three lots of MDH’s sambar masala from the country after the country’s food regulatory body tested the masalas to be positive for Salmonella.
The contaminated masala was distributed in the retail stores in northern California from which it was later recalled.
"This product was tested by the Food and Drug Administration through a certified laboratory to be positive for Salmonella. The recall was initiated after it was discovered by the FDA that the Salmonella contaminated products were distributed,” official release by the FDA said.
Consuming food that is contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses.
The symptoms of the disease include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. It will appear within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.
In most of the cases, people inflicted with disease recover without treatment, but in some rare and extreme cases, hospitalization is needed.
In the meantime, FDA in a release said that those consumers who have purchased the MDH SAMBAR MASALA could return them and in its place claim a full refund.
