The Indian embassy in Kathmandu has reached out to hundreds of pilgrims who are isolated on Nepal-China border during a dense downpour on their way to Kailash Mansarovar.  

According to official source the pilgrims are at present staying in locally set accommodations, and are waiting for the weather condition to get stable.  

"Embassy of India in Kathmandu is in touch with the pilgrims. They are waiting on the evacuation routes but will have to wait till the weather improves. Relief and medical facilities are being supplied to them," said the official explaining that the pilgrims are not facing any danger to physical safety.

In Simikot in the high Himalayas, the pilgrims are stranded that has to be crossed before entering into the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China. The condition turned earnest on Monday morning, while the pilgrims have been isolated at Simikot amid heavy downpour for a few days. A resident of Kerala Leela Namboodiripad died due to high altitude-related sickness.

As per the up-to-the-minute data acquirable with the mission, there are about 525 pilgrims stranded in Simikot, 550 in Hilsa and another 500 more in Tibet side.

The mission has placed its representatives in Nepalganj and Simikot, who are in person in touch with each and every stranded pilgrim. The representatives are guaranteeing that proper food and living accommodations are available to all the pilgrims.

The route to Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage through Simikot is arduous due to deficiency of proper road network and the pilgrims have to reckon on air service which can function only in clear-cut weather.
