The Atlanta City Council is all set to initiate a plan, that will regulate Uber and other ride-booking services at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It will legalize the services to operate at the world's busiest airport.
According to the city council, it will take up the plan at its meeting after months of negotiations to craft the rules. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, September 19.
As in several other U.S. cities, the issue of criminal background checks for drivers was among the most contentious as Atlanta's plan was developed.
Atlanta city council member Felicia Moore said she was in favor of requiring fingerprints. She said that, “I just think it’s important, particularly in this age of technology which we’re talking about.”
A report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, said that, a bill from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's administration rejects a previous airport proposal to require fingerprint-based background checks of ride-share drivers. Instead, it gives the option for companies such as Uber and Lyft to use their own private background checks.
