The Atlanta City Council has approved a land swap deal that allows to transfer the Bobby Jones Golf Course in Buckhead to the state. The voting was held on June 6. City council members Yolanda Adrean, Felicia Moore and Mary Norwood were the lone holdouts in the vote.
Mayor Kasim Reed said in the meeting that, the transaction was best for the city and community. “When this is all said and done, this will be the best golf facility in the region and state of Georgia,” Reed said.
The deal would not “fly out the door,” he promised. Supporters say the swap will allow for potential improvements at the Bobby Jones site. On the other hand, critics say the city should have considered private funding first.
City Council member Kwanza Hall said that, he was optimistic about the deal. “The state won’t do anything less than stellar at that site,” he said.
