Atlanta is all set to award two contracts worth more than $1.1 million, that will offer free meals to city schoolchildren this summer. The Atlanta Public Schools and Sodexo Inc. will be awarded nearly $850,000 to prepare the food, while Real Bizness Solutions LLC will get up to $300,000 to deliver the food.
The Atlanta Summer Food Service Program is designed to offer 122,405 breakfasts and 133,784 lunches to poor children those belongs to low-income communities across Atlanta. According to the Community Development & Human Resources Committee agenda, the meals will be provided from June 6 to July 29.
The program is being supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which offers nutritious meals to children in low-income neighborhoods during summer vacation, when they no longer receive school breakfasts or lunches.
It is administered by 'Bright From the Start' in Georgia. It is an foundation of the state Department of Early Care and Learning. The fund for the free meals project in the city will be sanctioned by Bright From the Start.
