On Thursday Calcutta High Court rejected TMC leader Madan Mitra’s bail plea. The CBI implicated him in the multi crore Saradha scam.

Minister of State for Sports and Transport in the Government of West Bengal, Madan Mitra's bail plea was argued by Kapil Sibal, former union minister and senior lawyer, in the high court. Up on receiving a bail, Madan offered to resign as transport minister.

Three Calcutta high court division benches earlier released hearing the bail plea. Personal grounds were cited by two judges to release the matter, while the third Judge denied to hear any issue related to Saradha scam.

From the time of his arrest on 12 December 2014, lower courts have been turned down successive pleas from Mitra.

Mitra was called by CBI as "very influential" man. At one instance, CBI  even moved the High Court saying that they had no confidence in the trial judge who is to hear Mitra’s bail plea.
