As the market for counterfeit luxury items takes wings in the country, more and more luxury goods houses are looking for ways to curb the fake local players.
Luxury houses have finally decided to take on the Indian fake market hands down.
Just recently, French luxury house Hermes slammed a litigation against the Indian leather goods retailer Da Milano for ripping off designs from its Birkin range.
Hermes has got an embargo from the Delhi High Court that bans Da Milano from selling handbags "identical in shape and design" to the popular Birkin range.
Da Milano, however, has refuted all charges and “sought vacation of the ex parte order of injunction.” Its lawyers have denied any similarity between the two products and said that Hermes initiated the action out of "business jealousy and rivalry".
With counterfeit, fake and imitation luxury products increasingly swallowing up the business of luxury brands like Hermes, Louis Vuitton (LV), Dior, Gucci and Burberry in India and counterfeit market for luxury products is growing twice as fast as the luxury market, thanks to its burgeoning inline demand, it's time that authorities jumped into action.
