Will the by poll for the Tirupati assembly seat witness a battle between senior TDP leader Mr Chadalavada Krishna Murthy and mega star Chiranjeevi’s wife Surekha? The answer seems to be a firm ‘yes’ if one goes by the hearsay.
With Chiranjeevi being elected to the Rajya Sabha, speculation has gained ground on the by poll to be held for the Tirupati assembly seat.
The actor-turned politician will have to quit from the assembly now and by-poll for the Tirupati seat will be held along with 17 other seats which fell vacant following the disqualification of 16 congress MLAs and the resignation of erstwhile PRP MLA Sobha Nagi Reddy.
Chiranjeevi, who contested for the Rajya Sabha seat, doesn’t want the Tirupati seat to go out of his control and has been seriously considering proposing the candidature of his wife to contest the by poll whenever it is held.
Chiranjeevi, who has of late nurtured himself into a full fledged politician, has recently denied the news reports that his wife would be a candidate for the Tirupati by poll in case he was elected to the RS. However, since he has turned into a true politician, his words should never be taken for granted for their face value.

If you remember, he declared twice he was not in the know of things of his candidature for the Rajya Sabha seat. But what happened was quite reverse and now he will have to sit in the Upper House from April 2. Before that, he is bound to quit the assembly.
As far back as January 2012, reports had indicated that Chiru’s wife will be the congress candidate and actor Mohan Babu’s daughter Lakshmi Prasanna might be fielded as TDP candidate to take on her in the by poll.
However, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu who joined hands with Mohan Babu by attending the latter’s Shastipurthi function at Tirupati recently, has changed his decision and decided to field the senior leader Chadalavada Krishnamurthy as the party candidate for the by poll, according to highly placed sources. Mohan Babu, who has some clout in Tirupati, has extended his support to Krishnamurthy’s candidature.
Krishnamurthy once represented the Tirupati seat and the Kamma lobby has reportedly asked Naidu to bring the seat back to its fold. “The seat went to PRP and not to the Congress. Since there is no PRP now, TDP will try to bring it back into its pockets and leave no stone unturned to fulfill that,” a senior party functionary said, adding, Chiru’ wife will be a political novice while Krishnamurthy can easily take on her with his political experience.
