In today's world, people are turning to the Sattvic diet mentioned in ancient Hindu texts as they explore the various factors associated with maintaining good health. The Sattvic lifestyle is rooted in the principle of Sattva, one of the three gunas (qualities) according to Hindu philosophy. In addition to meditation and yoga, a Sattvic lifestyle also includes eating Sattvic foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy products. But how is a Sattvic diet different from a regular diet?

The Sattvic diet has its roots in ancient Indian philosophy, particularly Ayurveda and yoga. It is recorded in the Bhagavad Gita that Lord Krishna explained to Arjuna the importance of a Sattvic diet. It emphasizes the importance of balance and moderation in various areas. Moderation in eating, entertainment, work and sleep is said to bring peace and contentment. A Sattvic diet is believed to improve these qualities in the body and mind, leading to mental clarity, peace and spiritual growth. Typically, a Sattvic diet consists of clean, light, nutrient-dense foods that are easily digestible, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and dairy products. However, there is a misconception that a vegetarian diet is synonymous with a Sattvic diet. Although many vegetarian diets follow Sattvic principles, simply abstaining from meat does not automatically classify a diet as Sattvic.

In Sattvic cooking, foods are prepared with minimal processing and cooked at a moderate temperature to preserve their natural properties. However, it is important to note that plant foods include a variety of foods, some of which may be fried, overcooked, or overcooked. Although these cooking methods may not be completely compatible with Sattvic principles, they do not necessarily exclude foods classified as vegetarian.

A Sattvic diet is a balanced diet that contains all the nutrients we need for health and vitality. Sattvic foods are known to nourish the mind and promote clarity of thought, peace of mind and deep concentration. These ensure stable energy levels and help prevent fluctuations in blood sugar levels that can affect cognitive performance. Sattvic foods are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber and promote overall health and immunity as well as the prevention of chronic diseases. Meat, fish, alcohol and alkaline and acidic foods are excluded from the Sattvic diet.
