Coconut oil is one of the most suitable oils for weight loss. According to a study published in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), coconut oil helps improve metabolic parameters in overweight people. Additionally, the antibacterial properties of coconut oil nourish your skin from within and give it a healthy glow. Some nutrients in coconut oil also promote hair growth. According to fitness trainer Ralston D'Souza, coconut oil is a better choice for cooking than ghee. He explains that ghee contains cholesterol and when heated to high temperatures, cholesterol can oxidize and form oxysterols. Most traditional Indian dishes are cooked over high heat, so using ghee while cooking is not a good idea. D'Souza also says the cholesterol in cherries may increase the risk of heart disease. Although ghee has a higher smoke point than coconut oil, the real problem is cholesterol. When choosing a cooking medium, he recommends considering factors besides smoke point. Ralston recommends choosing vegetable oils that are cholesterol-free and rich in antioxidants. However, this doesn't mean you should avoid ghee entirely. He suggests using qaisi as a topping. That's because olive oil is rich in vitamins and butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid known to support gut health and reduce inflammation. We recommend using coconut oil for cooking.
