Apple announced Monday that a number of its artificial intelligence (AI) features, called Apple Intelligence, are now generally available on the iPhone, among others, following the iOS 18.1 update. The feature was first unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June, but the Cupertino-based tech giant held off its release even after iOS 18 was unveiled in September. Apple's latest updates to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 add features like lighting tools, cleanup, automatic movie creation, and more. Notably, this development is the result of months of testing Apple Intelligence features by developers and Apple through public beta updates. Apple says Apple Intelligence is available on the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 or later and Macs with M1 or later are compatible with the Cupertino tech giant's AI suite. It was added as part of the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates.
One of the most notable additions in the iOS 18.1 update that makes up Apple Intelligence is the writing tool. As the name suggests, this feature uses artificial intelligence to proofread your document by checking spelling and grammar, summarizing it, and rewriting your text to suit different tones, such as: B. concise, friendly or professional. Depending on the user's preference, the text can also be displayed in table or list format. Writing tools are available in a variety of first- and third-party apps, including Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and WhatsApp on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The Photos app on iPhone has also been updated to include Apple Intelligence features for automatic video creation. Users can now use the Memory Movie option to automatically create a movie about a request. In addition to a major visual overhaul of the app, we also added natural language search, which, as the name suggests, allows users to search for media in plain language. Apple Intelligence has introduced a new cleanup tool, the Remove Objects tool, in the same application. The company claims it can remove unnecessary objects and people from images.
The update also introduced a new Siri UI that lights up the edges of the screen when the voice assistant is activated. It also offers Type-to-Siri functionality, allowing users to speak to voice assistants via text in addition to voice prompts. Apple says it has a better understanding and ability to better answer questions about device management. The company also offers call recording in its phone app. Recorded calls can be viewed in the Notes app, with the option to receive a transcript. Apple says broader Apple Intelligence features will be available in December, including ChatGPT, Image Playground, Image Wand, Genmoji and Visual Intelligence With Camera Control.
