On Wednesday, Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury carmaker, has begun the production of CLA sedan, its new generation car, in India becoming the seventh product to be produced in the country.
In a statement, Eberhard Kern MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said that, “Local production will make the CLA even more attractive for the discerning buyers with additional value propositions and increased availability.”
The company announced that India becomes its first market to commence the local production outside the Europe.
Piyush Arora executive director of Mercedes-Benz Operations said, “The start of local production of the CLA simultaneously in petrol and diesel variants is a key decision that will help curtail the long wait list for the sedan.”
The new generation cars (NGC) began production by Mercedes-Benz India in its global assembly network along with SUVs and sedans locally. NGC portfolio of Mercedes-Benz includes luxury hatchbacks A-Class and B-Class besides sedan CLA and GLA, the sports utility vehicle.
Beyond the India plant of Mercedes-Benz, the network has locations including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brazil will join in 2016. A new assembly plant is under construction at present in Brazil, the company said.
