Google is reportedly getting ready to launch a platform to buy the patents from the holders to keep them away from the companies, who live like parasites on the patents and do business with those rights. According to a report in PCWorld, Google wants the patents away from the notorious companies who just try to earn money by holding the rights and who stops the innovation and development.
Allen Lo, the company's deputy counsel for patents said, "Unfortunately, the usual patent marketplace can sometimes be challenging, especially for smaller participants who sometimes end up working with patent trolls," Lo wrote. "Then bad things happen, like lawsuits, lots of wasted effort, and generally bad karma. Rarely does this provide any meaningful benefit to the original patent owner."
According to the media reports, the project Patent Purchase Promotion will be buying the patents from those who are willing to sell. The patent holders can approach Google in the first two weeks of next month. Google has been seeking a month time to evaluate the patents, means the pay-out will be made in August.
However the project will be available only in US through a special portal built by Google. There are no details about the global arena. The small scale innovators and scientists will get benefit out of it and the tech giant may continue the researches and marketing further.
