Rumors about Apple's AirTag 2 have been around for some time. While we wait for official confirmation from Apple, Bloomberg's Mark Garman claimed that the company is preparing to release the second generation of its smart tracker next year. It should have a revised design and a new radio chip. Apple plans to add privacy improvements in the next AirTag. The company released AirTag in April 2021. The device, which sparked privacy concerns, has not received any hardware updates since then. Bloomberg's Mark Garman claimed in this week's Power On newsletter that Apple is preparing to launch the AirTag 2 around "the middle of next year." The new device, codenamed B589, is currently undergoing “advanced manufacturing testing” and the iPhone maker is reportedly preparing to launch it.
The AirTag 2 will likely have the same design as the current model, but will reportedly offer better range and an improved wireless chip. The current model features an ultra-wide chip (U1), while the second-generation model uses a U2 chip with improved connectivity. Garmin added that Apple will offer privacy improvements for the next generation of AirTags, including making it harder for someone to remove the speaker from the tracker. The first generation of air tags had privacy issues since their release and were used for tracking purposes. Apple's decision to make privacy-focused changes to the AirTag 2 will likely address these concerns. Garman said in a newsletter: "Apple is engaged in litigation over this device and it is in everyone's interest to make new models more robust".
Apple will reportedly launch new smart home displays alongside the next generation of AirTags next year. The company is also expected to release updated versions of the iPad Air, base iPad, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, Mac Studio and iPhone SE in 2025. Apple is also expected to revamp its iPhone, Apple Watch and MacBook Pro lineups this year. The first generation AirTag was launched in April 2021 and was priced at Rs 100 million. 3190 rupees each 10999 yen for 4 pieces. It features an IP67 standard construction and built-in speakers.
