The two time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders have continued their legacy by winning their first match against Gujarat Lions in the campaign.
Knight Riders have not lost their first match for four seasons straight now. They won the toss and chose to field first.
Openers Jason Roy and Brendom McCullum scored 14 off 12 balls and 35 off 24 balls respectively. Captain Suresh Raina gave a wonderful performance, he added 68 runs to total in 51 balls. Aaron Finch only managed 15 off 8 balls, while wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik scored 47 off 25 balls. Together Gujarat put a total of 183 runs. It was a pretty good target for Kolkata to chase, but it did something which no other team has ever done in T20.
Captain Gautam Gambhir along with Chris Lynn came into opening for Kolkata, and that is all the team needed to score the huge total. Never has a total of 183 been chased down without a wicket being lost in T20s.
Chris Lynn announced his arrival with a monstrous knock of 93 off 41 balls that blew away Gujarat Lions. Together with Gautam Gambhi 76 off 48 balls, he put on the highest ever opening stand in IPL history as Knight Riders started their campaign with a thumping victory in just 15 overs.
With bowlers Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja missing, there was nothing Gujrat could have done to the visiting side.
