Roger Ebert is one person the film critics will always look up to. The legendary film critic however is no longer among us. At 70 years, Roger passed away battling thyroid cancer.
Earlier on April 2nd, Ebert wrote on his blog that he shall refrain from his excessive indulgence writing the reviews for Chicago Sun-Times since his cancer returned to haunt him.
In his "Leave of presence", he wrote, despite his radiation treatment, the cancer had gone too far already. He stress that he would still be a part of the organization with a few selected reviews and leave the rest of the work to the young talented team that he picked himself carefully. He however expressed happiness that he shall henceforth be doing what he always wanted to do, review only those movies he wanted to review.
After learning that he had thyroid cancer in 2002, the 70 year old found cancerous growths on salivary glands too not very long after. This led to several surgeries which deprived him of his speech.
His career with Sun Times began 46 years ago as film critic. He was known among the world for his 1975 Pulitzer Prize. His other achievemnts include several movie-review TV shows with Richard Roeper and the late Gene Siskel, another film critic for the Tribune.
