Why does Love Hurt?

Even the best relationships go through bad patches. The relationship may be wonderful but the bad patches do cause hurt and distress. There simply isn’t a relationship without any hitches.

If you remember that a relationship comprises of two completely different individuals having to get to know another then you can understand why there are difficulties. Some couples get to understand one another more quickly than others but how fast individuals get to accept one another is another matter.

Now, accepting one another does not mean you have to accept bad behavior. Accepting one another means you don’t want to change your partner to suit yourself. You are going to have to accept your partner has his or her own views, opinions and beliefs and they may differ from your own. If you can’t live with this then you have a big problem.

However, most individuals are resilient and can handle a different opinion or a different way of doing things. It is when your partner wounds your feelings that you experience the hurt of love.

Of course, some people’s feelings are more fragile than others. You may get hurt easily and have a partner who loves to tease. The only reasonable solution is you have to learn not to take the teasing too personally and your partner must learn there is a limit to teasing i.e. not all teasing is a laugh.

It is when your partner won’t learn how to treat you due to indifference that love truly hurts. It is confusing when he or she tells you how much you are loved but continues to do the tings that hurt you most. It is even more hurtful if you have taken the time to let your partner how your feelings are affected.
