While the rainy season has begun, giving us a break from the intense heat, there are also issues we need to address. The rainy season increases the risk of many infectious diseases. The rainy season comes with many risks, including the risk of eye infections such as conjunctivitis. To keep your eyes safe and healthy during the rainy season, there are a few things you should keep in mind. To avoid eye infections like conjunctivitis, Dr. Sameer Kaushal, head of ophthalmology at Artemis Hospital in Gurugram, shared four common eye care mistakes to avoid during the rainy season.

Wash your hands regularly. Whether it's the rainy season or not, it's important to wash your hands frequently, especially before touching your eyes. If you don't wash your hands properly and regularly, bacteria and viruses can be transferred to your eyes, which can lead to infections. Hand sanitizer should only be used as a substitute when hand washing facilities are not available.

Rub Your Eyes It's tempting to rub your eyes when they itch or are irritated, but avoid it as this can introduce bacteria and other microorganisms into your eye and cause an infection.

Sharing Personal Care Items Sharing personal care items such as makeup, mascara, and other personal care items can spread infectious germs. Always use your products and dispose of them properly.

If you use uncleaned contact lenses, be sure to clean and disinfect them regularly. Otherwise, bacterial growth and infections can occur. Daily lenses are even better as they do not require disinfection and are the safest option.

By avoiding these common mistakes, you can significantly reduce the risk of conjunctivitis and other eye infections during the rainy season. Eye care is essential not only in the rainy season but all year round. So always pay attention to the health of your eyes.
