Gaya is an ancient city of mythological and historical significance. Located in Bihar, the city is 100 kilometers south of Patna. It is one of the important religious centers for the Hindus. Number of tourists and pilgrims visit Gaya every year. The city is well linked to major cities of India. Hence, there a number of ways to reach the ancient city through a network of trains, flights and buses. For those who are travelling from the nearby towns and cities, taking private or state busses is the best way to reach Gaya. The nearest railhead and aerodrome serving the city are Gaya Railway Station and the Gaya Airport or Bodhgaya Airport, respectively.

By Train

Gaya Railway Station connects city of Gaya with major Indian cities. The railhead is well connected to major destinations like Delhi, Ranchi, and Patna. Mahabodhi Express runs daily from New Delhi to Gaya, which takes nearly 16 hours. Once you reach the railway station, number of taxi and bus services is available.

By Air

Located 10 km away from city centre, Bodhgaya Airport or Gaya Airport connects the city of Gaya with the remaining cities of the country and also international destinations. Major carriers operating flights to Bodhgaya Airport are Air India, Golden Myanmar Airlines, Druk Air, and Myanmar Airways International. The flights connect Gaya with Paro, Delhi, Kathmandu, and Yangon. From the airport, reach Gaya city centre by hiring cabs or taxis.

By Road

Reaching Gaya by road is the most cost-effective and the best way. Well-maintained G.T road links Gaya with many cities of North India. Buses operated by state and private organizations run and regular intervals from cities like Ranchi, Patna, Jamshedpur, Raurkela, Kolkata and Hazaribagh. NH 83 and SH 69 route links Patna and Gaya.
