Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 happens to be the dream project of legendary director Mani Ratnam and the Tamil film fraternity says that the top director has been working on the script since three decades. After doing some extensive research, Mani Ratnam decided to make Ponniyin Selvan in two parts and the shooting portions of the entire two installments are completed. Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 is releasing today and the advance sales are fantabulous. The film featured Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban.
The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 started with early morning shows across Tamil Nadu and the word of mouth is extremely positive. The advance sales for the film in USA too are stupendous. The sales in Telugu states are decent and the film's run completely depends upon the word of mouth. Top producer Dil Raju is releasing Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 in Telugu states on a distribution basis. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions bankrolled Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 and the film is said to be made on a budget of Rs 300 crores. Mani Ratnam is super confident on Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 and the entire move unit promoted the film widely.
