Sushma Swaraj, External affairs minister, asked the Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, TCA Raghavan, to meet the Indian girl who was struck in Karachi for 14 years. The girl, who cannot speak and hear, remained unsuccessful after all efforts to find her family back in India.

Edhi Foundation, a social welfare group, member Faisal Edhi said, "The Punjab Rangers brought her to us some 14 years ago.”

The Express Tribune newspaper quoted Faisal as saying that,"For years, we have been trying to locate her family or her hometown so that she can return.”

Geeta in Karachi

The girl was first brought to an Edhi Centre located in Lahore. She was then shifted for shelter to  Karachi. It was there she was named Geetha by Bilquis Edhi. Geeta who is 23 years now is believed to have been crossed as a child into Pakistani territory.

Geeta could recognize Indian map on the phone. She said that she has four sisters and seven brothers, using her facial expression and fingers. She was given a separate paying room that was decorated with Hindu deities.
