The incident that brings our attention to the forefront is the launch of the country’s first seaplane service from the backwaters, the six-seater Cessna 206 H amphibian aircraft.
The service was known to be initiated by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy which happened on Sunday and would be launched officially for tourists in August. Nevertheless, the launch of the service had to face a protest from a left-backed fishermen’s organisation in Alappuzha furthering with a force to the seaplane in regard to changing its landing location.
The state Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar was known to have explained that by the end of this year, four more companies will be launching their seaplanes at the same time will be operating them from the Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Khozikode as well as Mangalore airports to the backwaters in Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kasargode districts.
Subsequently, the tourism minister while saying about the refusal from the chief minister in regard to the seaplane to land there, explained about impact of the poor weather conditions, accompanying the protest in Alappuzha.
Now, Kumar explained that he would be forwarding to the community at Alappuzha while he would be intending to convince them about the fact that it would no way utter a threat against their profession. As on the other hand the fishing community in Kollam has given its approval to the tourism project.
