Mega Food Park located at Mogili village, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, is one of India's largest integrated food parks. Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Dr. Charan Das Mahant said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that in response to the Express of Interest (EoI) 63 proposals have been received from different States for setting up of 15 new Mega Food Parks in the 3rd phase of Scheme implementation. Ministry has already initiated action for processing these proposals according to the Guidelines of the Scheme. All the proposals received have been appraised by the Programme Management Agencies (PMAs) and also dates have been notified for holding technical presentations to evaluate the proposals in accordance with the guidelines of the scheme.
Background: India is called the fruit and vegetable basket of the world. It is the second largest producer of food next to China. Its potentiality of being the largest food exporter in the world reflects not only in the quantity but also in the large variety of food. But among the produced foods hardly 2% of all is processed. There is a huge potentiality in food processing industry for the development of India. And Mega Food Park creates a synergy between the two pillars of the economy – Industry and Agriculture. Mega Food Park Scheme is the hatchway to meet the goal of development. The capability of exporting fruits and vegetable to the West Asia and European Countries, abundant investment opportunities and a booming and promising industry will be helped by the Mega Food Park Scheme. Apart from cultivation of the food there is Food Processing Units in the Park which is used for IQF Frozen Foods, fruits and vegetables Processing, Mango / Tomato / Banana / Pineapple / Guava Processing, Pulp / Puree / Concentrates, Candies and many more things.
