On the day when the young IPS probationary officer Narendra Kumar was mowed down to death by the mining mafia tractor at Banmore in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh for questioning illegal mining and transportation of stones on Thursday, another IPS officer was attacked by the liquor mafia in Bhind district for questioning violation of ‘dry day’ rule.
Reports said officials declared ‘dry day’ on Thursday on account of the Holi festival but the liquor shops on the Etawah and Lahar Road in Bhind violated the rule and sold liquor. The shops are allegedly owned by former BJP MLA Narendra Singh.
Learning of the violation of the dry day rule, IPS officer Jaidevan, who is the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Bhind, went to the spot along with his force and questioned the illegal sale of liquor.
However, the liquor mafia attacked them with stones and lathis forcing them to retreat immediately. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack. Police, who booked a case, told journalists that around 25 goons were involved in the attack. (J)
