UNHRC's resolution which was sponsored by the US met with great criticism by Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The island nation opined that the resolution was was meant to discredit and single out the country on the allegations of violating the human rights. It termed the resolution to be one that is biased and politicized.

UN High Commissioner of Human Rights, Navneetham Pillai borrowed a flawed report to compile the resolution it alleged. External Affairs Minister for Sri Lanka, G L Peris said that the resolution was only drawing unwanted and exaggerated negative attention to Sri Lanka while seeking to discredit the country while humiliating it. He added that this was hampering the reconciliation process in the nation and was far away from being helpful.

"Just as the Government of Sri Lanka did not recognize the last HRC resolution, it rejects the new resolution. Sri Lanka intends to request a vote when the draft resolution is taken up at the Human Rights Council on 21 March 2013."

Peiris went on to slam the resolution saying that it was a major disruption in their process of peace establishment, which they managed with great effort only recently. He warned the other nations that US sponsored resolution was intrusive, biased and politicized and hence a danger to other nations too.

Amid all these protests and denouncing, the UNHRC council has begun in Geneva, Switzerland.
