The Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ voluntary Pre-Departure Orientation Training Programme for Indians migrating abroad for employment has served over 50,000 people since last year.  

The voluntary PDOT is an initiative taken by MEA to ensure a safe, orderly, legal and humane migration process in the framework of THE motto ‘Surakshit Jaaye, Prashikshit Jaaye, Vishwas ke Saath Jaaye’ (go safe, trained and with confidence).

From enhancing soft skills of India’s migrant workers in terms of culture, language, tradition, local rules and regulations to sensitizing them about pathways to safe, legal migration and various government program for their welfare and protection, the PDOT programs assist Indians planning to migrate abroad for employment.

Starting from January 2018, the PDOT program achieved a new milestone on July 17, 2019, when the total number of emigrants imparted PDOT crossed 50,000, the statement said.

MEA had rolled out one-day PDOT programs at first at two centers each in Mumbai and Delhi in January 2018. Subsequently, the number of PDOT Centers have been increased to 10.
