Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will be unveiling a plaque at Clifford Pier in Singapore succeeding week to commemorate immersion of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes in country’s waves.
Modi will be arriving Singapore on May 31, a three-day visit. In the year 1948, Gandhi’s ashes were sent to several parts of India and across the world including Singapore.
Under the colonial government, Clifford Pier was Singapore’s sea front landmark, since it had been renovated it currently serves as restaurant under the same namesake “The Clifford Pier,” offering local, Asian and western dishes under the operations of The Fullerton Bay Hotel.
The plaque will underline the strongly growing ties between two countries that is to be unveiled on June 2 and later Prime Minister interacting with local representatives.
To highlight the old links between India and Singapore, Modi will be visiting three temples on South Bridge Road that were built by early Indian settlers in Singapore as community projects over a century ago and at present regarded as national monuments.
He like wise will be visiting the Indian Heritage Centre in Little India, a precinct Indian-origin small businesses to see the exhibit and inaugurate a permanent platform for Indian craftsmen visiting Singapore from India for short period of time to exhibit their work.
