The United States Vice President-elect Mike Pence says the controversial telephonic conversation between the President-elect Donald Trump and the leader of Taiwan was just a "courtesy call".
ABC News reported, Pence said speaking about the call between Trump and Taiwan's Tsai Ing-wen, which broke decades of US diplomatic policy and risks creating a serious rift with China, that, "It was nothing more than taking a courtesy call from a democratically elected leader."
In 1978 then-president Richard Nixon agreed to Beijing's One China policy, since no US president or president-elect has spoken to a Taiwanese leader.
The move drew an irritated response from China and looked set to cast uncertainty over US policy toward Asia. Chinese state media said that Trump's "inexperience" led him to accept the phone call, but warned that, Sino-US relations would "destroy" if there will any breach of the One China policy.
