United Parcel Service (UPS) is gearing up to open a new regional package center on the west side of Atlanta. The third largest processing facility in the US network of the company is intended to invest $400 million in the new hub. The facility is expected to open in late 2018. UPS is also expected to add estimated 1,250 new jobs.
The new jets are expected to fly to Louisville daily. Spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said in a statement that, “UPS is looking at large hubs such as Chicago and Louisville, and later Atlanta, to define the company's approach to modernization and expansion.”
David Abney, UPS' chief executive, said that, “UPS has proudly made its global headquarters in Atlanta for more than two decades.”
“This strategic capital investment will feature state-of-the-art technology. When combined with the strong transportation connections and talented labor pool that Atlanta provides, UPS is building flexibility to meet the growing needs of our customers and our business in Georgia, and around the world.”
UPS employs over 14,000 people in various operations across Georgia. Its network planning, Product and technology development, and other corporate staffs are based in metro Atlanta.
