Chennai will see a variety of movies from Singapore and Sweden screened for the six days beginning Monday, on the occasion of the Swedish Film Festival. The Swedish Film Festival is organized by the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi and Indo Cine Appreciation Forum. A variety of movies from comedy to drama are expected to be screened in the city.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Swedish Film Festival, Mikael Johansson, second secretary of political affairs embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, said: “The city seems to be a great place with great people offering excellent hospitality.”
“The Reunion, the first movie screened on Monday, won several awards including the International Federation of Film Critic Award at the Venice Film Festival and was greatly praised by the critics when it was released there. It explores the hierarchies we experience when we are young and how it influences us when we grow up,” Johansson added.
At a packed gathering at ITC Grand Chola and on a melodious note, the inaugural function of the 26th edition of the Singapore International Film Festival began. Honorary Consul of the Consulate of Sweden, Chennai Arun Vasu was also present at the event.
Trailers screened after the inaugural are I Not Stupid, Ilo Ilo and Singapore Panda, a short film, by Sun Koh. These movies besides Hentak Kaki, Timeless and Kantog Fugue are to be screened at Escape Cinemas and Hard Rock Cafe, Phoenix Market City, at 7.30 p.m. on September 2-3.
