The jewellery designer Riddhima Kapoor Sahni revealed that her entire family was heavily criticized online after the death of her father, the renowned actor Rishi Kapoor. She said people judged them for appearing in public after his passing. Riddhima explained that while they were struggling to accept the reality of his death, they tried their best to remain composed in public. However, their effort to not show their grief was misunderstood, with many people assuming they were unaffected. Riddhima expressed her disappointment at the insensitivity of the online trolls, who questioned why the family seemed happy in photographs or public appearances after Rishi's death. She emphasized that people should not make assumptions about their private struggles based on their public persona. Riddhima also addressed the accusations of privilege, stating that just because someone appears to have everything, it does not mean they are not facing their own insecurities.

Rishi Kapoor, a well-known Bollywood actor, passed away on April 30, 2020 at the age of 67 after a two-year battle with leukemia. Even during his illness, he remained positive and determined to make the most of his life. He focused on his family, friends, food, and films, and those who met him were amazed by his resilience. Rishi came from a legendary Bollywood family, being the son of Raj Kapoor and the grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor. He was the second son of Raj Kapoor and had several siblings. In 2018, Rishi was diagnosed with cancer and spent more than a year in New York receiving treatment. He was married to Neetu Kapoor, and they had two children, Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor. Ranbir later married the actress Alia Bhatt, and they welcomed their daughter Raha in November 2022.
