Rahul Bajaj, Rajya Sabha member and Top industrialist, has said to NDTV that this is not Narendra Modi's government. Rahul Bajaj is known to be an admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The industrialist said that the NDA government was losing the sheen, after its historic election victory last year.
Chairman of the Bajaj Group, Mr Bajaj, told NDTV in an interview that, "We had an emperor on 27th of May 2014. Very few places in the world in the last 20-30 years (have) a success like that in the history of a nation. I am not anti this government. But the fact does remain, the shine seems to be wearing off."
The black money bill
The context behind Bajaj’s strong words for the government is its black money bill. The black money bill allowed three months time or compliance period to reveal foreign assets. All who wish to avail three-month window should pay 60% charge, yet stay away from prosecution. Those who do not disclose could face a 120% charge in addition to prosecution for maximum 10 years.
According to Mr Bajaj, the anxiety in business community is that there is no guarantee of protection from prosecution even upon declaration.
If that is the case, Mr Bajaj says, "I can't declare. I won't declare. I will take my chances, go to Supreme Court, and fight it out. In my lifetime, nothing will happen to me."
