A recent study by the journal Lancet made it clear that the mix and match of the vaccinations for coronavirus fetched better results. All the people who took the first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and those who took mRNA vaccine for the second dose have lower risk of infection compared to those who took both the doses of AstraZeneca. The study was conducted in Sweden and all those who received the first dose of AstraZeneca were asked to take mRNA vaccine for their second dose in Sweden. Peter Nordstrom, a professor at the Umea University, Sweden told that taking the approved vaccine is better when compared to taking no vaccine.
Peter Nordstrom told "However, our study shows a greater risk reduction for people who received an mRNA vaccine after having received a first dose of a vector-based, as compared to people having received the vector-based vaccine for both doses". The entire study is published in The Lancet Regional Health-European journal on Monday. The data was collected from the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the National Board of Health and Welfare, and Statistics Sweden. 7,00,000 lakh individuals were included in the survey. The effectiveness also applied for the delta variant which is the major reason for the spread of coronavirus in the recent months.
The World Health Organization suggested that there is need for larger studies to investigate the safety of the mix and match vaccines for coronavirus.
