Misinformation surrounding the treatment of Covid-19 has resulted in grave dangers in US. People have tried consuming drugs and medicines that have been “touted” effective for the treatment of this viral infection, resulting in serious conditions, even death.
The US Justice Department halted the sale of a chemical agent by a church group in Florida, deeming it effective for the treatment of the novel coronavirus.
The department has filed a complaint against the said church, Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, alongside a number of the key members who have been involved in this charade. They have been booked for the sale of the “Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS)”.
The sale of this in Florida was immediately advised and sanctioned by the federal judge to prevent any further risks or impacts on the health of these individuals.
According to the claims made by the church, MMS is touted to be effective to cure, mitigate, treat and even completely prevent the novel coronavirus infection alongside a few other health conditions as well.
The department clarified saying, “MMS is a chemical product which, when combined with the included activator, creates a powerful bleach product.”
The guidelines about the possible consumption of this chemical agent had been clarified by the FDA stating that it can cause signs of nausea, vomitting and even signs of diarrhea in the extreme cases.
The department had warned the authorities of Genesis to stop selling the chemical agent to which they have not agreed. “They are attacking a Church Sacrament. This is something that is 'sacred' or 'holy' to us as a Church,” Genesis said in a statement.
Retaliating to that, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn stated saying, “The Genesis II Church of Healing has continued to actively place consumers at risk by peddling potentially dangerous and unapproved chlorine dioxide products.”
US has been working with some specialised units to prevent spread of misinformation and to combat fraud claims during this times of crisis in the world.
