The security check at the airports often seems to be the most stressful especially when you have to remove all your electronics and shove it in a tray.

Nevertheless, there will be no fuss at the airports of the United States as the new 3D scanning technology can identify objects while inside your bags, including laptops.

The U.S. airports have been testing an advanced 3D screening technology since 2017 with a relaxed security protocol, allowing passengers to leave items like laptops, mobile phone, and toiletries inside their luggage bag. The technology will now roll out on a wider scale in the U.S.

The new scanning technology - called computed tomography - creates 3D images of contents inside a bag and detects items automatically that the security officers currently require passengers to remove, according to a Bloomberg report.

You were supposed to remove a laptop or toiletries from your bag while security check at the airport since the scanner was designed only to scan for explosives and not everyday travel accessories. But the new scanners seemingly will detect even detect a laptop just a wide chunk of metal and plastic.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the security agency that protects U.S. ports, placed an order of 300 cutting edge 3D scanning machines for $97 million with manufacturer Smiths Detection.

According to David Pekoske, head of the TSA, it will take up to five years for approximately 2,000 old scanners to be replaced by these new ones at most U.S. airports.
