UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is closely following the situation in India and Pakistan with deep concern as tensions have escalated after Pulwama terror attack. He asked both sides to take steps to lower the tensions through meaningful engagement.
“He ( Antonio Guterres ) is following the situation as we see it even today with deep concern, and his… the United Nations' message, both publicly and privately, to both sides is to urgently take steps to lower tensions through meaningful, mutual engagement and meet their responsibilities to maintain peace and security in the region,” his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters Wednesday.
“Discussions are being held at different levels with different parties to make sure that we have… we get a full picture of what is going on and the message coming out of those discussions is on the need for both countries to do whatever they can to de-escalate the situation,” the spokesperson informed.
Even Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over tensions between India and Pakistan along the line of control and also said that it is ready to assist India in combating terrorism.
This comes after Pakistan jets violated Indian airspace and attempted to target military installations in our side of line of country.Indian Air Force foiled the Pakistan Air Force’s attempt and shot down one F-16 jet of Pakistan.
In this air engagement Indian Air Force lost one MiG 21 fighter jet and Pilot who landed on the other side of the LoC after his plane crashed, was taken in custody by Pakistan Army.
Yesterday evening Indian High Commission in Pakistan gave a demarche to Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for immediate and safe return of Wing Commander Abhinandan.
